Losing Weight
I think losing weight is one of the hardest things you can do and for me i believe success lies in your approach and your mental attitude rather than your program or diet you choose. Remember its a long process and that's one of the hardest elements to deal with. Everyone wants instant results and short of surgery it is not possible.
There are a lot of inspirational videos out there that can spark a desire to lose weight and that's the first stage you have to want to lose weight.

Once you start to exercise or diet you find its relatively easy and you know that the amount of work you put in is directly proportional to the results you're going to achieve so you do as much as you can. This is a mistake. You shouldn't aim for quick results, even if you feel like you're not over doing it if you approach weight loss with this attitude you wont achieve your goal. You need a long term sustainable model not a quick fix. You need to change your lifestyle so it shouldn't be any effort to lose weight just a few adjustments to the way you do things and the way you eat. Gradual small changes in your lifestyle towards a healthier lifestyle is far better than giving the newest diet 150% effort starving yourself losing a stone a month and stopping after 3 months only to put the weight on.

For me I changed my diet dramatically ditched my daily chocolate eating and ate carrot sticks as a substitute until I didn't crave chocolate any longer. That was a great start also I started moving some of my foods over to low glycemic index foods. Which basically means brown instead of white foods. This really makes a difference as brown foods take longer to digest which keeps you full for longer and releases the energy slower so less of it is turned to fat.
Once a week I also had a cheat meal/day where I could eat anything I wanted to. Other people I know and have helped skip this cheat meal they may of got slightly faster results but no surprise stopped their diet and I continued mine, they regressed to old habits and put the weight back on. I'm still sticking to my diet as the cheat day makes it far easier to keep as a sustainable model. Most people want instant results skip the cheat meal because they don't feel like they need it but it makes the model so much more sustainable to have a treat at the end of your week.
